Welcome to the official blog of Prairie Revival Ecological. We are thrilled to have you here as we embark on a mission to restore, and celebrate the native ecosystems that define our region.
In a world where natural habitats are increasingly fragmented, Prairie Revival Ecological stands as a partner for landowners, municipalities, and conservationists looking to bring the wild beauty of the original landscape back to life.
At Prairie Revival, we believe that ecological restoration is both a science and a labor of love. We don’t just plant gardens; we rebuild functional ecosystems. Whether it’s a small residential pollinator pocket or a multi-acre prairie reconstruction, our goal is to increase biodiversity, improve soil health, and create resilient habitats that promote the greatest good for the longest term.
Natural Landscaping: Design and istallation of sustainable, low-maintenance landscapes using native plants.
Pollinator Habitat Installation: Support biodiversity and create year-round beauty with plantings designed for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
Environmental Restoration: Restoring balance to natural spaces with thoughtful, targeted ecological management including biodiversity improvement, erosion control, water quality enhancement and invasive species management.
Consulting: Our environmental consulting services provide a comprehensive framework for ecological success through precise biolgical inventories, stategic wildlife and diversity planning, and data-driven protocols for the professional establishment and long-term protection of native habitats.
Prairie Revival Ecological is led by its founder and owner Andy Gilsdorf, whose deep-rooted passion for the land is backed by years of technical expertise in all aspects of natural resource management.
With a background in Fisheries, Water Quality, Soil and Water Management, Environmental Restoration and Botany, and extensive field experience in the Midwest's unique landscapes, Andy brings a "land-first" philosophy to every project. Their expertise isn't just found in textbooks—it’s found in the successful germination of rare plant species, the careful execution of a prescribed burn, and the steady recovery of degraded oak savannas.
Botany & Plant Identification: A "boots-on-the-ground" knowledge of native and invasive species. We specialize in native plants that will excel in all conditions, and using preexisting plant communities to evaluate ecosystem recovery
Hydrological Restoration: Understanding how water moves through the landscape to prevent erosion and support wetland health.
Sustainable Stewardship: Developing management plans that are realistic, cost-effective, and ecologically sound.
The "Revival" in our name is an invitation. It’s an invitation to look at an empty lot, a monoculture lawn, or a weed-choked fencerow and see the potential for something vibrant and alive.
We invite you to follow this blog for tips on native gardening, deep dives into local ecology, and updates on the projects we are working on in your community.
At Prairie Revival Ecological, we blend science and stewardship to nurture native plants and wildlife, ensuring resilient landscapes for future generations.
